Katy Perry is turning into quite the real estate collector. Recently, the California courts granted her the right to purchase an eight-acre convent in Los Angeles after a two year legal battle. Now, she’s dropped another $18 million on another Los Angeles home.
Perry bought the home of Cory Leibel, heir to a massive Canadian construction fortune. The home is located in the Beverly Crest area of Los Angeles and the deal was completed off-market – meaning the house wasn’t for sale. Katy saw it, liked it, made an offer, and bought it.
The home is a two-story traditional house that was built in 1959. It has been updated over the years to reflect advances in design and kitchens. The home is accessed via long driveway that ends in a circular parking area. A large lawn and mature trees dot the lot of just over an acre. The home has an infinity edge swimming pool. The 5,500 square foot house has a formal entry, five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms and a library/den. The living room, library and master bedroom feature fireplaces.
The house last sold in 2007 for $9.2 million. Television director Rob Schiller, known for “The King of Queens,” formerly owned the property. Cory Leibel, the house’s last owner, is the son of Canadian construction tycoon Lorne Leibel. He is a record label owner who dabbles in high-end real estate development. Last year he sold a spec house in the Hollywood Hills for $20 million.
It’s not known if the Beverly Crest house will be Perry’s main residence. After all she is expected to pay the Archdiocese of Los Angeles $14.5 million for the former convent of the Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She had said that she wanted to move into the convent with her mother and grandmother to drink tea and “find herself.”
